Religious leaders from across the United Kingdom have signed an open letter declaring that antisemitism is 'a problem for all of us to fix' and expressing solidarity with the country’s Jewish community. Organised by the Together Coalition, the letter describes recent attacks on Jewish people and places of worship as 'a nightmare from another time' and stresses that Jewish citizens belong in the nation as much as anyone else.
The message follows a series of violent incidents, including stabbings, firebombings and arson attacks targeting synagogues and Jewish charities in London and Manchester. In one recent case, two Jewish men were stabbed in Golders Green, while other attacks have involved vehicles being driven into crowds and buildings being set alight.
Signatories include leaders from Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Sikh and Zoroastrian communities, as well as figures from business, sport and media. Chief Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis welcomed the letter as a strong response to extremists, while campaigners said communities must stand together to prevent hatred and division from taking hold.
