Costa Rica's new president told Herzog she wants to open embassy in Jerusalem, his office says

Costa Rica's newly inaugurated President Laura Fernández Delgado told Israeli President Isaac Herzog that she intends to upgrade her country's mission in Jerusalem to a full embassy, according to Herzog's office. The two leaders met for their first official meeting shortly after her swearing-in ceremony.

Herzog also met with several other heads of state attending the inauguration, including leaders from Spain, Chile, Honduras, Guatemala, and the Dominican Republic. He said he was moved by what he described as strong appreciation for Israel and recognition of its contributions.

Herzog noted what he called a positive trend in Latin America, highlighting growing ties and deepening cooperation with Israel despite criticism in other parts of the international community. During his visit, he also attended Sabbath morning prayers at the Centro Israelita Sionista de Costa Rica in San Jose, where he read from the Prophets and addressed the congregation.
