United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio said negotiations with Iran over extending a ceasefire and reopening the Strait of Hormuz will take several more days as both sides continue discussions over the wording of an initial agreement.
Speaking before departing India, Rubio noted that there is significant back and forth over specific language in the draft document. The talks come after the United States carried out new strikes in southern Iran despite the existing ceasefire.
Rubio stressed that President Donald Trump will not accept what he described as a bad deal. He emphasized that the immediate priority is ensuring the Strait of Hormuz is reopened and remains accessible without Iran imposing tolls on ships passing through the vital waterway.
