Former Israeli ambassador to the United Nations Gilad Erdan said he is working to establish a new right-wing party ahead of the upcoming elections, positioning himself as a candidate for prime minister in a post-Benjamin Netanyahu era. A longtime member of Likud who held multiple senior ministerial roles, Erdan said he believes his experience in government and diplomacy has prepared him to lead the country.
Erdan said the proposed party would aim to form a government of national reconciliation and would not rely on extremist factions or narrow sectoral interests. He argued that many Israelis feel unrepresented and do not want a coalition dependent on ultra-Orthodox or other hardline groups, adding that such political dynamics are straining Israeli society and the economy.
He also criticized the current political climate, saying many lawmakers no longer serve as role models for children. While he is exploring the feasibility of launching the new party, Erdan stressed that he would only move forward if it proves politically viable. National elections are scheduled to take place by late October.
