United States President Donald Trump has said he would accept a 20-year suspension of Iran’s nuclear programme, signaling a shift from his earlier demand for a permanent end to uranium enrichment. He emphasized that any agreement would need to be a 'real 20 years', indicating that strict conditions would apply.
In the past, Trump insisted that Iran permanently stop enriching uranium and never be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons. His latest remarks suggest a potential compromise, though he warned that his patience was running out as negotiations show little progress.
The comments come amid heightened tensions following large-scale air strikes launched by Israeli and United States forces on 28 February. A ceasefire established last month to support diplomatic efforts has largely held, despite occasional exchanges of fire.
