A senior United States official said that talks between Israel and Lebanon are continuing according to the established timetable, warning that any collapse in negotiations would benefit Hezbollah. The official emphasized that stable peace can only be achieved through direct negotiations between the two governments.
The official stated that Hezbollah chose to continue its attacks despite having an opportunity to agree to a ceasefire, describing the situation as a confrontation between Israel and a terrorist organization. According to the official, Hezbollah initiated the escalation to maintain its political standing and sustain what was described as an illusion of resistance.
Israel reportedly informed the United States in advance about plans to expand military operations in Lebanon. While Washington urged Israel to avoid strikes and building collapses in Beirut, an Israeli official indicated that targeted eliminations in the city could be approved if operational opportunities arise.
