Police intercepted a group of alleged cattle smugglers near the Nuh Hodal road on Tuesday morning after receiving a tip off about illegal transportation of animals for slaughter. The suspects were using an Eeco car modified to resemble an ambulance to transport two cows, one bull and one calf. The animals were rescued safely.
When signalled to stop, the driver allegedly accelerated and the occupants opened fire at the police team. Officers chased the vehicle for several kilometres before a tyre was punctured, forcing the suspects to abandon the vehicle near Sarpanch Dhaba and flee into nearby fields while continuing to shoot.
During the exchange of fire, one आरोपी, identified as Hamas, sustained bullet injuries to both legs and was apprehended. He was taken to Nalhar Medical College for treatment. Two other suspects managed to escape, and efforts are ongoing to arrest them. Police recovered a country made pistol, live cartridges and empty shells from the scene and registered a case at Nuh Sadar police station.
