Chris Rabb, a progressive Pennsylvania state lawmaker known for his sharp criticism of Israel, won the Democratic primary for Pennsylvania's Third Congressional District in Philadelphia. With no Republican challenger in the heavily Democratic district, he is all but certain to succeed retiring Representative Dwight Evans in November. Rabb’s victory positions him to join the group of left-wing lawmakers often referred to as the 'Squad.'
Rabb centered his campaign on pro-Palestinian advocacy and opposition to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, drawing endorsements from prominent progressive members of Congress and support from several left-leaning organizations. He secured about 44 percent of the vote, defeating state Senator Sharif Street and pediatric surgeon Ala Stanford in a closely watched three-way race.
The outcome reflects growing pro-Palestinian sentiment among segments of Democratic voters. If elected, Rabb is expected to be among the most outspoken critics of Israel in Congress, backing a full embargo on arms sales to Israel and supporting measures to formally recognize the Nakba and affirm the right of return for Palestinian refugees.
