Slovenia's parliament elected nationalist leader Janez Jansa as prime minister, returning him to power after securing a minority coalition agreement and the fragile backing of a protest party. Fifty-one lawmakers supported his appointment, while 36 voted against, according to the televised parliamentary vote.
Jansa, known as an admirer of United States President Donald Trump and a supporter of Israel, replaces liberal leader Robert Golob. Golob had been openly critical of Israel, and his government recognized a Palestinian state in May 2024.
The leadership change signals a political shift in Slovenia, with Jansa set to steer the country in a more right-leaning direction following the collapse of the previous administration.
