Foreign ministers from Saudi Arabia and numerous Arab and Muslim countries have condemned the opening of a purported Somaliland embassy in Jerusalem, calling the move illegal and unacceptable. The condemnation follows Israel’s decision in December 2025 to formally recognize Somaliland, a breakaway region of Somalia, as an independent state.
The ministers said the step violates international law and infringes upon the legal and historical status of occupied Jerusalem. They rejected any unilateral actions intended to alter the city’s status or legitimize arrangements that contradict relevant resolutions of the United Nations.
They reaffirmed that East Jerusalem is Palestinian territory occupied since 1967 and declared that any measures aimed at changing its legal and historical character are null and void. The ministers also expressed full support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Somalia, rejecting any actions that undermine Somali sovereignty.
