Several Democratic lawmakers criticized the Democratic National Committee for a now-deleted Memorial Day social media post that referenced 'Trump's war with Iran' while honoring fallen service members. Senator Tammy Duckworth of Illinois, an Army veteran who lost both legs in combat, called the message 'incredibly distasteful' and condemned her own party for politicizing the holiday.
Representative Jason Crow of Colorado, a former Army Ranger, also rebuked the post, saying Memorial Day should not be used for political attacks and that leaders must hold themselves to a higher standard. The original message included photos of fallen soldiers and drew swift backlash online.
Republican officials also denounced the post, accusing Democrats of using fallen troops as political props. The Democratic National Committee later replaced the message with a more traditional tribute honoring those who died in military service.
The controversy comes as the party faces additional criticism over its recent 2024 election review, which some commentators have described as lacking substance and failing to address key voter concerns.
