Fresh finds beneath the Church of the Holy Sepulchre provide evidence of a first-century garden and a former quarry. Archaeologists discovered olive and grape pollen and seeds dating back 2,000 years, supporting biblical references to a garden near the crucifixion and tomb. In addition to the botanical evidence, the team also uncovered Iron-Age pottery, oil lamps, and coins, shedding light on the area's agricultural history. Ground-penetrating radar and 3-D mapping are being used to visualize the entire church, and the excavation is ongoing. The project is the most extensive campaign at the site in nearly 200 years.
