Trump's DOJ says UN agency can be sued for Oct. 7 attacks, reversing Biden-era position

The Trump Justice Department has reversed the Biden-era position and stated that the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) can be sued in the United States over its alleged involvement with Hamas in the Oct. 7 attacks in Israel. Families of more than 100 victims of the attack are claiming $1 billion in damages from UNRWA, accusing the agency of aiding and abetting the terror group's attack. The Justice Department's new position marks a drastic reversal from the previous administration's stance that UNRWA was protected by international legal immunity. The move comes after Sen. Ted Cruz introduced legislation that would strip immunity from UNRWA and allow American victims of terrorism to sue the agency in U.S. courts.
