Israel and Hamas are currently far apart on reaching a hostage deal, with no chance of bridging the gaps between the two sides at present, according to an Israeli official. Hamas insists on a complete cessation of the war with guarantees, while Israel demands the removal of Hamas from both military and civil governance in Gaza and the demilitarization of the Strip. Qatar's Prime Minister stated that Hamas is willing to release all the hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, but under conditions that Israel is unlikely to accept. Hamas is also reportedly prepared to release the hostages in exchange for a five-year ceasefire with international guarantees.
