Scientists have observed nematodes forming living towers in nature for the first time, allowing them to hitch rides with passing insects during food scarcity. The research team documented this collective behavior in orchards near Constance, where the tiny roundworms climbed on top of each other to escape rotting fruit. These towers, known as phoresy, enable the nematodes to be carried to new habitats as a group.
