Columbia University disciplines 70 students more than a year after violent library takeover

Columbia University has disciplined over 70 students for their involvement in disruptive pro-Palestine demonstrations on campus earlier this year. The incidents included a riot at Butler Library and several other chaotic events during the spring semester. About two-thirds of the disciplined students faced expulsion or suspension, with sanctions ranging from probation to degree revocations. The university stated that these actions followed a thorough investigation and hearings conducted by a panel of professors and administrators, aiming to ensure fairness and consistency in enforcing campus rules. Columbia emphasized its recent reforms to the disciplinary process and reiterated its commitment to maintaining respect and order on campus.
