US reverses pledge to link disaster funds to Israel boycott stance

The Trump administration has reversed its decision to require United States cities and states to oppose boycotts of Israeli companies in order to receive disaster relief funds. The Department of Homeland Security removed language from its website that had mandated states certify they would not cut commercial ties with Israeli companies to qualify for funding. This reversal affects at least $1.9 billion in grants used for critical emergency services such as search-and-rescue equipment and backup power. Officials stated that disaster relief grants will now be governed by existing law and policy, rather than political considerations.
