Ohad Yahalomi, a beloved park ranger and environmentalist, was kidnapped from Kibbutz Nir Oz on October 7 and killed in captivity. During the attack, he attempted to protect his family, but was taken hostage along with his son, Eitan, while his wife and two other children managed to escape. Eitan was later released, but Ohad was confirmed murdered in January 2024, with his body returned to Israel in February 2025.
Ohad dedicated his life to nature conservation, working for nearly two decades with the Israel Nature and Parks Authority and co-authoring a guide to Israeli scorpions. He was remembered by colleagues and his community as a role model, a connector of people, and a passionate protector of the environment. His legacy lives on in the landscapes he cherished and the many lives he touched.
