Two Scottish charities are joining forces to help protect rare frankincense trees in Somalia by clearing landmines left from years of conflict. The Halo Trust and the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh are launching a partnership to make land safe for ecological surveys and restoration work on the valuable Boswellia sacra trees. The initiative will enable local communities to access and care for these trees, which are vital for livelihoods and under threat from environmental pressures. The charities aim to expand similar projects to other regions affected by conflict, combining expertise in landmine clearance and plant conservation.
