Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast has selected Tuticorin in southern Tamil Nadu for its first overseas factory after evaluating multiple locations across India. The plant, which will initially assemble electric sports utility vehicles, is expected to create up to 3,500 direct jobs, with the majority of the workforce sourced locally. VinFast's CEO highlighted Tuticorin's proximity to transport hubs and the strong talent pool as key factors in the decision. The company plans to scale up production and eventually transition from assembling imported components to full-fledged manufacturing, aiming to become a leader in India's electric vehicle market. Exports from the facility are set to target neighboring countries, the Middle East, and Africa, with deliveries of the first vehicles beginning soon.
