Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced Mission Sudarshan Chakra, a plan to establish a multi-layered, integrated air and missile defence shield across India by 2035. The initiative aims to protect both strategic and civilian locations, such as hospitals and railways, using advanced early-warning sensors, command and control systems, and interceptor missiles. The shield will be progressively expanded and modernised over the next decade, incorporating space-based assets and potent counter-offensive weapons. This move comes in the wake of recent cross-border tensions and threats from Pakistan, highlighting India's commitment to enhancing its defence capabilities. The project will build on existing systems and ongoing indigenous missile development, with the first phase expected to be operational by 2028-29.
