A ship carrying 1,200 tons of food aid is nearing the Israeli port of Ashdod after departing from Cyprus, aiming to help ease the deepening humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The vessel, loaded with pasta, rice, baby food, and canned goods, represents a coordinated effort led by the United Nations, with contributions from Cyprus, the United Arab Emirates, Italy, Malta, and Kuwait. Once offloaded, the aid will be distributed by trusted organizations to food stations across Gaza, where famine threatens the population.
This shipment follows the withdrawal of aid groups from previous seaborne missions due to security and weather challenges. The situation in Gaza remains dire, with the United Nations warning of record levels of starvation and malnutrition since the conflict began. Recent ceasefire proposals have yet to be accepted by Israel, and the prospect of further military operations raises fears of worsening conditions for civilians.
