A United States House committee has launched a formal investigation into the National Education Association following allegations that the teachers' union is fostering antisemitism among its members and in classrooms nationwide. The inquiry, led by the House Committee on Education and Workforce, centers on concerns about the union's 2025 handbook and a recent vote to boycott Holocaust education materials from the Anti-Defamation League.

The controversy began when the union's Representative Assembly passed a resolution to ban ADL materials, citing disagreements over the definition of antisemitism. Although the decision was later reversed after public backlash, lawmakers remain concerned about the union's approach to Holocaust remembrance and its emphasis on educating about the Palestinian Nakba.

Committee Chairman Tim Walberg has demanded the union provide all relevant communications and documents related to antisemitism, Israel, and Palestine dating back to October 2023. The investigation aims to clarify the union's stance and actions regarding these sensitive issues.
