The storied Nahal group, known for combining military service with community work, will return to its agricultural roots starting September 1. After years of focusing on urban and disadvantaged communities, Nahal will once again serve agricultural settlements along Israel's Gazan and northern borders, a move prompted by the events of October 7 and ongoing security challenges. New core groups of young volunteers will live in border communities, contributing to education, agriculture, and local resilience, while also fulfilling their military duties in various battalions and support roles. The initiative is being coordinated by several youth and agricultural organizations, with a significant rise in youth participation following recent attacks. Organizers hope the presence of these young people will help restore and strengthen communities that have suffered trauma and depopulation, offering support in both practical and emotional ways.
