British cyclist Finlay Pickering made a remarkable last-minute journey to compete in one of the season's major grand tours. After receiving a call to replace an injured teammate less than 24 hours before the race began in Turin, Pickering rushed from Andorra to Toulouse airport, traveling 200 kilometers by taxi to catch the first available flight to Italy.
Despite a flight delay that resulted in his suitcase being lost, Pickering was able to start the race thanks to having two pairs of shoes in his hand luggage. He remained calm and optimistic, expressing confidence in his readiness for his first-ever Grand Tour. Pickering finished the opening stage in 153rd place, supported by his team and undeterred by the chaotic lead-up.
