UN chief condemns 'endless' Gaza horrors as Israel presses offensive

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has condemned the ongoing devastation in Gaza, describing the situation as an 'endless catalogue of horrors'. The territory's civil defence reported at least 31 deaths from Israeli strikes since dawn, as Israel intensifies its offensive around Gaza City. The vast majority of Gaza's population of over two million has been displaced multiple times, with aid groups warning against further expansion of military operations.

Guterres called for accountability, highlighting the destruction and possible violations of international law. On the ground, residents continue to flee southward, with many lacking shelter and basic necessities. The United Nations has declared a famine in Gaza, blaming systematic obstruction of aid deliveries, and the head of the World Food Programme warned that the region is at 'breaking point'.

Amid mounting international pressure, Israel has begun preparations to move the population south for their protection, while continuing its campaign against Hamas. Media restrictions and limited access have made independent verification of casualty figures difficult, but the humanitarian crisis continues to deepen.
