Arjun Malaviya, a 19-year-old student from California, has become the youngest solo traveller in history to visit 100 countries, including every nation in Oceania. Over 13 months, Arjun meticulously planned his journey, travelling on a tight budget and navigating a wide range of experiences, from sleeping in airports to surviving a kidnapping attempt and evacuating to bomb shelters. His travels took him from Afghanistan to Papua New Guinea, Colombia to Iceland, and he highlighted the beauty and diversity of places like Iceland, Bolivia, Syria, and Palau, while also noting the stark differences between Western perceptions and local realities in countries such as Afghanistan and Iran.
Arjun's journey was not without challenges, including being detained by authorities in Venezuela and facing a harrowing ransom situation in Southeast Asia. Despite these obstacles, he maintained discipline and focus, often spending only a few days in each country and avoiding distractions. Now, with his sights set on visiting Russia and Belarus to complete every country in Europe, Arjun is determined to continue his global adventure, aiming to visit all 195 United Nations-recognized nations and explore Africa next. He encourages others to embrace travel for its life lessons and personal growth, emphasizing the value of resourcefulness and adaptability.
