Flotilla departs Barcelona for Gaza in biggest attempt yet to break Israeli blockade

A large flotilla carrying humanitarian aid and activists, including Swedish climate campaigner Greta Thunberg, has departed Barcelona in the biggest maritime effort yet to challenge the blockade of Gaza. The convoy, made up of about 20 boats and delegations from 44 countries, aims to deliver food, water, and medicine to the war-torn enclave, with more ships expected to join from Italy and Tunisia. Organizers say the mission seeks to open a humanitarian corridor and draw attention to the dire conditions facing Gaza's population, as Israel intensifies its military operations and restricts aid. The flotilla is expected to reach Gaza in mid-September, with activists staging protests in solidarity across multiple countries. Previous attempts to deliver aid by sea have been intercepted by Israeli forces, but organizers describe this latest mission as the largest and most determined to date.
