A woman has gone on trial in New Zealand, accused of murdering her two children whose bodies were discovered in suitcases by a couple who purchased the contents of an abandoned storage unit in Auckland in August 2022. The accused, Hakyung Lee, is representing herself and denies the charges related to the deaths of her six-year-old son and eight-year-old daughter, who are believed to have been killed in June 2018. Lee, originally from South Korea, changed her name and left New Zealand after her husband died, and was later extradited from South Korea to face trial. The trial at the High Court in Auckland is expected to last four weeks, with prosecutors calling 40 witnesses to present their case.
