Israel reveals Iran's Guards leader behind attacks on Jewish sites in Europe, Australia

Israel's intelligence agency has revealed that a transnational terror network led by Sardar Ammar, a senior commander in Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force, is responsible for a series of attacks on Jewish sites in Europe and Australia. The network, comprising around 11,000 operatives, has intensified its efforts since the October 2023 Hamas attack on southern Israel, targeting Jewish and Israeli institutions through vandalism, arson, and planned assaults on community leaders.

Recent incidents linked to this network include arson attacks in Athens, surveillance of Jewish sites in Berlin, and attacks on a synagogue and restaurant in Australia. In response, Australia expelled Iran's ambassador and moved to designate the Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terror organization. Mossad noted that the network often recruits non-Iranians and criminal gangs to obscure Iran's involvement, though many attacks have been described as amateurish.

The revelations come amid growing international condemnation of Iran's intelligence operations targeting Jewish and Israeli interests abroad. Fourteen countries have jointly called on Iran to halt its illegal activities, and reports indicate an increase in Iran-backed plots across Europe. The ongoing proxy conflict between Israel and Iran has escalated into direct military confrontations in 2024, with both sides launching strikes against each other's key assets.
