Hikind, who leads Americans Against Antisemitism, stated that his decision was driven by concerns over Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani, citing Mamdani's anti-Israel stance and controversial associations. In a video message, Hikind urged voters to back Cuomo, emphasizing that he believes only Cuomo can prevent Mamdani from winning and that the city's future is at stake. Despite acknowledging his reservations about Cuomo, Hikind stressed the importance of unity to 'save New York City.' Mamdani has been criticized for his positions on Israel and his refusal to adopt certain definitions of antisemitism, as well as his vow to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he visits the city.
