Who is Amjad Al-Shawa? Palestinian activist named as new leader of Gaza's technocrat government - Reports - The Times of India

Amjad Al-Shawa, a well-known civil society leader and human rights activist in Gaza, has reportedly been appointed to lead a new technocratic board governing the Gaza Strip. This development comes after both Hamas and the Palestinian Authority announced the formation of the administration, with each selecting half of its members. While Hamas will retain control over security in Gaza for now, Al-Shawa is seen as a neutral and consensus candidate due to his extensive humanitarian work and connections with international organizations.

Born in Gaza in 1971, Al-Shawa has played a significant role in defending human rights and supporting civil society, serving as Deputy Commissioner-General of the Independent Commission for Human Rights and as General Director of the Palestinian NGOs Network. His experience includes mediating on critical issues such as healthcare and electricity between Gaza and the West Bank, and advocating for the lifting of Gaza's blockade. Observers believe his leadership could facilitate cooperation during Gaza's transitional phase.
