Ben Cohen, co-founder of the well-known ice cream brand, has announced the creation of a watermelon-flavoured sorbet to promote peace in Palestine, following claims that Unilever blocked Ben & Jerry's from developing a similar product. The watermelon, a symbol of solidarity with Palestinians, inspired Cohen to seek public input on the sorbet's name and ingredients. This new flavour will be produced under Ben's Best, Cohen's activist ice cream brand, and is independent of Ben & Jerry's. Cohen also plans to develop other flavours addressing social issues that he says Ben & Jerry's was prevented from tackling due to Unilever's restrictions. His efforts follow the recent departure of co-founder Jerry Greenfield, who left Ben & Jerry's over concerns about the company's compromised independence and diminished social activism.
