New York City Mayor Eric Adams has issued a strong warning about the rise of antisemitism in the city and across the country, describing it as spreading 'like a cancer.' Speaking days before a pivotal mayoral vote, Adams condemned recent anti-Israel rhetoric and an unsanctioned art exhibit that included hateful imagery and messages targeting Jews. He emphasized that while criticism of government policies is legitimate, openly praising groups like Hamas or promoting institutionalized hatred crosses a dangerous line.
Adams highlighted the alarming rate of hate crimes against Jews in the city and called for unity, recalling the historic alliance between Jewish and Black communities during the civil rights movement. He urged New Yorkers to reject hate and division, and instead move forward with love and acceptance. Adams also endorsed Andrew Cuomo for mayor, citing concerns over frontrunner Zohran Mamdani's anti-Israel stance and rhetoric.
