Syria has initiated a sweeping security operation targeting Islamic State sleeper cells and hideouts across several provinces. The Interior Ministry stated that the campaign is based on precise intelligence and is being conducted in partnership with the General Intelligence Directorate. Specialized units have been deployed to regions such as Idlib, with authorities releasing footage of raids on suspected locations.

The operation comes ahead of interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa's visit to the United States, where discussions with President Donald Trump are expected to focus on counterterrorism efforts against remaining Islamic State elements in Syria. While Islamic State has lost most of the territory it once held, sleeper cells continue to pose a threat, carrying out attacks in both Syria and Iraq.
