Iran has sharply criticized Australia's decision to label the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps as a state sponsor of terrorism, calling the move unlawful and influenced by Israel. Tehran's Foreign Ministry condemned the designation, asserting that the group is an official part of Iran's armed forces and has played a key role in defending national sovereignty. The ministry vowed to take all necessary steps to defend its military's reputation and accused Australia of setting a dangerous precedent.
Australia made the designation after intelligence assessments linked the group to attacks on Jewish community sites in Sydney and Melbourne in late 2024. Australian officials described these incidents as unprecedented acts of foreign aggression. Iran has denied any involvement in the attacks and previously downgraded diplomatic ties with Australia following the expulsion of its ambassador over these allegations.
