Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas has voiced strong opposition to the recent agreement between Israel and Somaliland, emphasizing support for Somalia's unity and sovereignty. Abbas condemned the mutual recognition, arguing that it threatens regional stability and undermines Somalia's territorial integrity. He also alleged that Israel's move is intended to expel Palestinians to Somalia, and reaffirmed support for Somalia's legitimate institutions and the stance of other Arab states against the agreement.
In contrast, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed the agreement, describing it as aligned with recent regional peace initiatives. Netanyahu praised Somaliland's leadership and expressed intentions to expand cooperation in various sectors, including agriculture, health, technology, and the economy. Despite Somaliland's declaration of independence in 1991 and its relative stability, Israel is the first country to formally recognize it.
