Nvidia is reportedly close to acquiring Israeli startup AI21 Labs for up to $3 billion, marking a major move in the global artificial intelligence sector. The deal, which is said to be in advanced stages, would represent a significant exit for AI21 Labs, valued at $1.4 billion in its last funding round. Industry sources suggest Nvidia is primarily interested in the company's highly skilled workforce, known for their expertise in large language models and neural network architecture.
AI21 Labs, co-founded by Amnon Shashua in 2017, has been a prominent player in generative artificial intelligence, with its 'Jurassic' models competing directly with leading technologies in the field. The acquisition would further strengthen Nvidia's presence in Israel, where it is investing in a large research and development campus expected to accommodate thousands of employees in the coming years.
