AG to High Court: Netanyahu should be made to explain why he hasn't fired Ben Gvir

Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara has asked the High Court to require Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to explain why he has not dismissed National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir. In a detailed court filing, Baharav-Miara accused Ben Gvir of systematically abusing his powers, interfering in police operations, and undermining the independence of law enforcement. The attorney general cited Ben Gvir's actions regarding anti-government protests, police promotions, and the handling of aid trucks bound for Gaza as examples of his overreach. She argued that these actions threaten the foundational values of Israeli democracy and that the public cannot be protected from such systematic interference without intervention. The High Court is expected to hear the petitions calling for Ben Gvir's dismissal in mid-January, as tensions between the attorney general and the national security minister continue to escalate.
