Police officer who saved civilians in southern Israel on Oct. 7 dies after illness

Senior police officer Itamar Alus, who bravely fought terrorists and saved civilians during the October 7 attack in Ofakim, has died after an illness. On that day, Alus left his home armed only with a handgun and confronted multiple gunmen, helping wounded residents and leading others to safety under heavy fire. His actions, which included direct engagements with attackers and life-saving first aid, were credited with saving many lives.
