Officials are working to identify victims of the tragic fire at the Le Constellation bar in Crans‑Montana, a ski resort town in the Swiss Alps. Among those confirmed dead are Jewish sisters originally from France. The fire broke out shortly after midnight when sparklers attached to champagne bottles ignited the ceiling, causing flames to spread quickly through the crowded basement.
Witnesses described how a waitress, lifted onto an employee's shoulders, held a sparkler too close to the ceiling, triggering the disaster. French media have also reported that Jacques Moretti, the bar's owner, has a criminal history that includes convictions for fraud, kidnapping, and unlawful confinement.
