Iran has accused the United States of fueling unrest within its borders, claiming that American interference has transformed peaceful demonstrations into violent acts and widespread vandalism. In a letter to the United Nations Security Council, Iran's ambassador condemned what he described as unlawful and destabilizing actions by the United States and its allies, arguing these undermine international law and threaten global peace.
Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei echoed these sentiments in a televised speech, alleging that protesters were acting on behalf of foreign interests. He called for unity and warned against serving as 'mercenaries for foreigners,' as the government faces mounting pressure and a crisis of legitimacy.
Meanwhile, the United States has signaled possible support for the protesters, with President Donald Trump stating he might intervene if security forces target demonstrators. The situation remains tense, with over 30 protestors reported killed and both sides exchanging accusations over responsibility for the violence.
