Social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, has replaced the Iranian regime's flag emoticon with Iran's pre-Islamic revolution lion and sun flag. The change was implemented early Saturday morning as nationwide protests in Iran continue for the fifteenth day. The lion and sun flag, which was the official symbol before the 1979 revolution, is widely recognized among anti-regime protestors and supporters of Iranian Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi. The update was confirmed by X's head of product, Nikita Bier, who responded to user requests and shared the coding change before the new flag went live, affecting all previous uses of the regime's flag, including on official Iranian accounts.
