Nine Israeli tourists were detained by Ukrainian authorities at the border with Moldova after a bag of salt in their vehicle was mistaken for an illicit substance. The group, who had traveled to Ukraine to visit a religious site and pray for a cancer patient, was held overnight in their car without food or water while their passports were confiscated. Despite lab tests confirming the substance was only salt, the tourists remained under suspicion and were only released after over 20 hours, following intervention from religious and government officials. The ordeal left the travelers distressed and forced them to make new travel arrangements after missing their original flight.
