More than 130 leading hotel and holiday park executives have written to the Chancellor, warning that Labour's planned increases to business rates pose a major threat to the hospitality sector. The bosses, representing companies such as Butlin's, Hilton, Travelodge and Whitbread, say the proposed relief package for pubs must be extended to hotels and other accommodation providers to avoid closures and price hikes. According to analysis, average business rates bills for hotels are set to rise by 115 percent over the next three years, making them among the hardest hit by the changes. The letter urges the Government to provide a sector-wide solution, warning that the extra costs will be passed on to consumers and could threaten jobs and investment. The hospitality industry is expressing frustration that the relief measures may exclude hotels, despite mounting evidence of the impact on the sector's viability.
