Recovery efforts for New Zealand landslide victims suspended after crack found at site

Recovery efforts at Mount Maunganui in New Zealand have been suspended after a crack was discovered at the site of a deadly landslide. The landslide, triggered by heavy rains, struck a busy campground on the North Island, where six people, including two teenagers, are presumed dead. Authorities had begun identifying victims after human remains were found, but safety concerns forced all staff to leave the area. Police officials have not indicated when recovery operations will resume, emphasizing that decisions are being made day by day. The incident has deeply affected the community, with the Prime Minister expressing condolences to grieving families. Heavy rains also caused another fatal landslide in the nearby suburb of Papamoa.
