The Rafah Crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt is set to reopen today for the first time since the war began, offering a controlled route for Gazan residents to exit and enter. Initially, only Gazans will be permitted to use the crossing, with a daily capacity of around 200 people. The process involves strict oversight, as Israel will approve the list of individuals allowed to leave, and the crossing will be operated by Gazans under the supervision of a European mission.
A remote technological system managed by Israeli security will ensure that only those with prior approval can pass, eliminating the need for a physical Israeli presence at the site. Entry into Gaza will also be restricted to pre-approved residents, who will be transported to an Israeli screening point for identification and inspection to prevent unauthorized items from entering. The reopening marks a significant step in regulating movement in and out of Gaza amid ongoing security concerns.
