The Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt has reopened, allowing the first group of patients to leave Gaza for medical treatment abroad since early 2025. On February 2, five patients and seven companions were evacuated with support from the World Health Organization and its partners. The reopening comes as over 18,500 people, including more than 3,000 children, are still waiting for evacuation due to war-related injuries and chronic illnesses. Health authorities in Gaza are faced with the difficult task of prioritizing patients, as some have died while waiting for the chance to receive care outside the region.
