Italy has announced it will not join the Board of Peace, an initiative launched by United States President Donald Trump, due to constitutional constraints. Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani emphasized that the country's constitution prohibits participation in organizations led by a single foreign leader, calling the legal barrier insurmountable. The Board of Peace, introduced at the World Economic Forum, has attracted 19 signatories and aims to oversee post-conflict reconstruction in Gaza, though its mandate is broader. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni acknowledged the constitutional incompatibility but expressed openness to engaging with the initiative in the future. European leaders have signaled willingness to cooperate with the Board if its focus is limited to Gaza, aligning with United Nations resolutions.
