United States forces have begun withdrawing from their largest base in northeastern Syria, departing the Qasrak facility in Hasakah province as part of a broader redeployment. Convoys of trucks and armored vehicles were seen leaving the base, which has long served as a central hub for coalition operations against the Islamic State.

A full withdrawal from Qasrak would still leave coalition forces operating from another base near the Iraqi border. The drawdown follows recent shifts in territorial control, with government forces under President Ahmed al-Sharaa taking over areas previously held by Kurdish-led fighters. American troops have also left other positions in the region in recent weeks.

A United States defense official declined to comment on future troop levels, citing operational security, while Syrian authorities and Kurdish-led forces did not immediately respond. The redeployment comes as Damascus signals it is prepared to assume greater responsibility for countering extremist threats, even as the Islamic State continues to claim deadly attacks.
